SF Japantown Walking Tour
with Ben Pease

Saturday, December 1, 2001

San Francisco is home to one of the three remaining Japantowns in the U.S. Built by community spirit and hard work, it has weathered the 1906 earthquake, WWII internment and 1960s-era redevelopment. On this walking tour we will explore today's business district and surrounding neighborhood, using maps, old photos, and stories of Nikkei who grew up here. Learn what has changed and what endures.

One-mile walk with some hills and stairs. Visit the NJAHS gallery after the tour.

$5.00 donation.
