Get Out of Camp:
An Interactive Experience of Japanese American Internment

On display 10/16/00 - 07/31/01

Location:  NJAHS Gallery, 1684 Post Street, San Francisco, CA 94115
Exhibit Hours: Monday - Friday, 10 am - 5 pm

GET  OUT OF CAMP aims to give the audience an experiential overview of what WWI was like for Japanese Americans.  Through a partial internment barrack replica, self-guided life-size "board" game, objects, photographs and music, this exhibit seeks to give the audience a personal, subjective experience of an individual's camp experience.  The exhibit will give a historical overview of internment, with the focus on the impact of eviction and interment of the internees, and the difficult choices and actions they faced as a result.

School groups and individual students are encouraged to visit this interactive exhibit.  This is a great resource for students entering our LOCKED IN, LOCKED OUT Essay Contest.  For more information, or to schedule group tours, please contact Program Manager Judy Hamaguchi at 415-921-5007.
