The National Japanese American Historical
Society (NJAHS), founded in 1980 in San Francisco, is a non-profit membership
supported organization dedicated to
the collection, preservation, authentic interpretation, and sharing of historical
information of the Japanese American experience for the diverse broader
national community. NJAHS specializes in travelling exhibitions,
publications, videos, interactive multimedia, military and camp collections,
and educational programs. We publish our quarterly journal, Nikkei Heritage. In 1986, NJAHS changed its name
from Go For Broke and expanded its purpose to tell the entire story
of the Japanese American experience to a broader audience. NJAHS's exhibits
have been presented through such institutions as the Smithsonian Institution,
the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Oakland
Museum, and the Bishop Museum in Hawaii. Today, the Historical Society continues
to be a vital resource for museums, publishing firms, and schools.
